International Silver JOAN OF ARC (1960s) Sterling Silver Flatware 4 Piece Set

  

This is a 4 piece place setting of Joan of Arc sterling silver by International Silver Company. The place setting consists of a dinner fork, salad fork, teaspoon, and knife. The knife handle is hollow and the blade is stainless steel.

The blade style is 9 1/4" (Place Size) Modern Hollow Knife with 4 1/2" handle. The dinner fork is approximately 7 3/8 long. The salad fork is approximately 6 1/8 long. The teaspoon is approximately 5 7/8 long. Joan of Arc was in spired by designs in the Louis XV style with elegant scrollwork and a sculptured shell at the bottom.

There is decoration on the front and back. There is NO monogram on any piece. The forks and spoon have "Joan of Arc" and "International Sterling" on the underside and the knife has "Sterling Handle" on the side of the handle near the blade attachment. My husband and I were not big entertainers, and if we used any of this sterling flatware more than 6 or 8 times, I would be surprised. The set has always spent its life in a silverware box with Pacific Silvercloth.

When I opened it recently, the pieces were virtually tarnish free. I do not think the box has been opened for 35 to 40 years.

I think earlier pieces might be heavier than pieces produced more recently. I gave the pieces a hand polish. They have some rub and use marks.
